About this Episode:

In this episode of The Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with leadership development expert, author, and speaker, David Veech about his transformative insights into the essence of effective servant leadership, and the critical decisions we can each make every day to ensure success and fulfillment for ourselves and those around us. David is the founder and CEO of Leadersights, an organization centered around helping leaders of all types hone their leadership skills.

Grounded in David’s keen insight and understanding of the essence of servant leadership, Leadersights coaches teams to obliterate obstacles, accelerate innovation, and elevate performance by teaching leaders to love, learn, and let go. Leaders who apply what they learn see higher productivity, higher profitability, and higher professionalism in their workplaces. To share what he has learned with others outside of his work, David has authored two books: Leadersights: Creating Great Leaders who Create Great Workplaces and The C4 Process: Four Vital Steps to Better Work.

David believes, and I agree, that work should be fun, exciting, challenging and interesting, and he has always carefully studied leadership with an eye for finding practical strategies that his students and clients can easily apply. Although David clearly has a profound understanding of the timeless and universal principles at the heart of Transformative Leadership, his unique ability to make these these insights and concepts immediately accessible and effective for others is what sets him apart.

David was a fascinating guest and definitely a kindred spirit, who came to his deep understanding of leadership from an interesting and multifarious background. This was one of my longer conversations because we were both so excited to be talking about a subject we are so passionate about! Suffice it to say, we really go pretty deep on a variety of different subjects around servant leadership, self-awareness, culture transformation, personal development, and so on, and even then, we probably could have talked for a few more hours! I really can’t recommend this episode, or David’s work, highly enough. So, listeners, please do yourselves a favor and set aside some time to check this episode out, and then do yourself another favor by visiting Leadersights as well!

Some topics discussed in this episode include:

  • David’s long and interesting journey to where he is today, from ROTC to farmer to travel advisor, and more.

  • The 3 critical decisions leaders must choose to make every single day, and how they form the foundation of success and fulfillment.

  • Why it is so critical to love the people you work with and those around you, and what exactly that entails.

  • What holds organizations back from creating a culture of profitability, productivity, and performance.

  • Leadership lessons David learned from his time in the military, and how they can be applied to create processes that facilitate a culture of leadership.

  • And much more…

David Veech has been teaching leaders to be more effective since 1989. For 20 years, he learned from the very best as an officer in the US Army, and has been on the faculty teaching leadership and lean systems at Stetson University, the Defense Acquisition University, the University of Kentucky, and the Ohio State University. He has also taught in the Executive Education program at Penn State University.

His clients have included those in offices, factories, construction sites, and hospitals, such as: the US Postal Service, Owens Corning, Rolls-Royce, the Arizona Department of Economic Security, and Nationwide Insurance. David is the author of the CRC Press best selling book “Leadersights: Creating great leaders who create great workplaces” (2017), and the Business Innovation Press best selling book “The C4 Process: Four Vital Steps to Better Work” (2011). He also created “FirstLine: A team leader’s guide to lean thinking” (2005, PKI) which is a learning program focused on first line supervisors.
