About this Episode:

In this episode of The Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with global communication expert and executive coach, Krister Ungerböck, about upgrading our language and listening skills to inspire authentic followership at work and at home, becoming better leaders and people in the process. Krister Ungerböck is a successful global tech CEO with extensive experience in human resources, leadership development and employee engagement across cultures. Through his keynotes, coaching and Talk SHIFTs assessment, Krister helps leaders unlock their potential by applying universal communication secrets that utilize emotional intelligence to drive connection, growth and high performance for organizations and individuals alike.

Along Krister’s leadership journey, he went through a business breakup with his father the same week his wife left him, and had a perspective-shifting realization: in his quest for business growth and leadership success, he had failed as a leader of people. He now teaches leaders about language "Talk SHIFTs" -- practical, simple, say-this-not-that rules that shift frustrating relationships at work and at home. His upcoming book, tentatively titled 22 Talk SHIFTs reveals how people can upgrade their language and improve their listening skills to inspire authentic followership at work and at home. By rooting their communication in emotional intelligence, and encouraging their managers to do the same, organizational leaders can unlock their full leadership potential to boost employee engagement and business growth. Krister’s insights appeal beyond just leaders in business. Using cross-disciplinary research, he reveals not only how to become a better boss or employee, but also how to be a better family member, spouse and friend.

It goes without saying that Krister is definitely another kindred spirit. Even though he was firmly entrenched in a very technical industry, he discovered the universal principles behind the “touchy-feely“ stuff that lies at the foundation of Transformative Leadership, and he discovered that it actually worked! This was a great conversation with another great guest about the power of communication, relationships, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence, so be sure to check this episode out!

Some topics discussed in this episode include:

  • Krister’s background as a tech CEO and how a breakdown led to him discovering the power of transforming language and listening.

  • How emotional intelligence changes the way we talk, think about, and do leadership.

  • Five communication best practices leaders can practice to make a difference right now.

  • How to apply lessons from personal relationships to your business relationships to inspire followers and drive growth.

  • And more…
