About this Episode:

In this episode of the Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with culture development expert, Brett Putter, about what it takes to truly understand your workplace culture, and define and create the desired culture and embed it into the organization at all levels. Brett explains why he doesn't believe in "hiring for culture" and offers a better alternative that most effectively meets the intent of hiring the right people for the organization.

In our conversation, Brett also explains how other commonly used terms such as "healthy culture" can be misleading, and he goes over the specific indicators leaders must pay attention to in order to know whether they have a strong a functional culture. We also talk at length about how employers can create a strong culture in an environment of remote work arrangements.

Bretton (Brett) Putter s a leading expert on startup and high-growth company culture, consulted by companies and leaders worldwide to help design, develop and build high-performing cultures. He is the CEO of CultureGene, a culture leadership software and services platform. Prior to founding CultureGene, and after 16 years as the Managing Partner of an international executive search firm, where he sourced CxOs, VPs and Directors for over 400 startups and high-growth companies, Bretton realized the single biggest driver of the most successful hires was how well the company had defined and understood its culture.

In 2018 he published his first book, Culture Decks Decoded and his second book Own Your Culture: How to Define, Embed and Manage your Company Culture in September 2020. Brett writes a popular blog on culture-driven companies, is a sought-after speaker and a contributor to Forbes.
