About this Episode:

In this episode of the Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with personal strategist, facilitator, and coach, Jodi Hume, about the critical role that honest conversations play in helping us navigate the unique challenges and uncertainty we face as leaders. Jodi provides on-call decision support and facilitated leadership conversations for startup founders, entrepreneurs and Exec Teams, and is also the host of the business podcast: So Here's My Story.

After a 15-year career as COO of a growing architecture firm, Jodi shifted gears and has made a name for herself over the last decade providing on-call decision support and facilitated leadership conversations for startup founders, corporations, entrepreneurs and executives. Jodi facilitates complex conversations for hundreds of growing entrepreneurs and companies throughout the United States, Europe and Australia, working with countless organizations, including Excelon, Johns Hopkins and Teach for America.

While Jodi works 1:1 with a small number of clients, she is always looking for ways to make more space for leadership conversations in the broader community. She convenes facilitated roundtable conversations for entrepreneurs; and each week, she co-hosts So, Here’s My Story..., a podcast built from real, honest, business stories with poignant take-aways and plenty of humor.

Let me just say right here, that Jodi is definitely another kindred spirit! I really enjoyed talking to her about the critical conversations that we, as leaders, must have with others and ourselves, to overcome the challenges we face and remain effective for those who depend on us. I’ve talked about the incredible importance of the conversations we have on many occasions, and Jodi just drives it home even more how it important it is that we intentionally put ourselves in some type of honest conversations structure to allow us to grow and adapt to changes, even good changes. There was so much more we could have discussed, andI would definitely love to have Jodi back to talk more. This is a great episode with a lot of great insight for listeners, so be sure not to miss it!

Some topics discussed in this episode include:

  • How Jodi discovered her passion for facilitating transformative conversations came to where she is in her career.

  • Some common leadership myths, why we believe them, and how they affect us.

  • Why authenticity is key to finding support with the challenges we face, especially for high-functioning people or leaders.

  • Why both self-care and relying on others are some of the most important, yet overlooked, elements of being an effective leader.

  • How appreciation for conversation and “conflict“ allows leaders to unlock their potential for growth and influence, no matter the situation.

  • The critical importance of leaders finding someone they can confide in and who is willing to have honest conversations with them.

  • And much, much more…
