About this Episode:

In this episode of The Transformative Leader Podcast, I am excited to bring you a conversation with multidimensional leader and executive communication coach, Monique Russell. A fellow Atlanta-based leader, Monique is an expert on a wide range of leadership topics, with particular focus and expertise in effective communication strategies for leaders in the business and government sectors. Monique has taught and spoken at venues all over the globe, and places an emphasis on leadership from the inside out, emotional intelligence, and, of course, communication, all of which are invaluable aspects of being and showing up as a Transformative Leader.

Aside from her impressive credentials and experience, Monique has also been through the tough but necessary process of self-transformation, and I believe all aspiring leaders will be able to relate to and take inspiration from her journey. Monique was an inspirational, engaging guest, and I know everyone who listens will get something of value. I’m sure we could have talked for hours, and I hope we have the chance to have her back on the show again. Suffice it to say, I can’t recommend this episode enough!

In our conversation, Monique recounts her rich background and personal and professional journey of coming to the U.S. from the Bahamas and “accidentally“ getting into leadership and executive communication. Like many influential and effective leaders, she developed an understanding and passion for her current work in the course of practical experience, which involved supporting executives and observing the challenges they faced. We also talk about how her background in communications led her to look for ways to increase engagement and fulfillment for her fellow employees, and why introspection is so important for growth and resilience in today’s business world. She also discusses something not often talked about when it comes to leadership: the very real impact the pressure can have on self-confidence and self-esteem, and crucial role of self-care and accepting outside help in resolving these issues. She stresses the importance of humanizing leaders and of acknowledging our flaws and limitations so we can grow beyond them. There is a whole lot more to this episode than I can summarize here, so be sure to give it a listen.

Monique Russell is the founder of Clear Communications, LLC, an International Inspirational Teacher and Executive Communication Coach based in Atlanta, GA. She’s taught thousands of leaders globally in Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Communications, shared the international speaking stage with icons such as Lisa Nichols, and has consulted for government agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control, OSHA and for Fortune 100 companies such as Verizon, Intel, and Equifax. Monique's civic involvement includes serving as a board Advisor for non-profit groups, co-founding a Tedx afterschool club which is broadcast globally on TED.com, sponsoring anti-bullying campaigns in the Caribbean, and facilitating programs at Junior Achievement, YearUp Atlanta, Dress for Success International among others.
