About this Episode:

In this episode of the Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with storyteller, humanist, and leader, Shelly McNamara, about ways in which we can create a world in which everyone feels they belong, and how her new book explores topics related to her own journey toward that goal.

I had the great pleasure of speaking with Shelly, who is the Chief Equality and Inclusion Officer at Procter and Gamble—where I spent the first 19 years of my corporate career—and the author of a new book titled No Blanks, No Pauses: A Path to Loving Self and Others. Shelly's genuine interest in people comes through loud and clear in this conversation as she shares with us part of her personal and professional journey and introduces us to her new book. Shelly has a genuine desire to create a world where everyone feels they belong, and she is active in fulfilling this mission at work, and in life as she writes poetry and stories.

Shelly McNamara is a natural storyteller, humanist, and respected leader. As the Chief Equality & Inclusion Officer at Procter & Gamble (P&G), she works with her colleagues on the leadership team and with P&G people around the world to make the company one of the most innovative, diverse, and inclusive companies in the world. Well-known for her speeches that are compassionate, courageous, and authentic to the core, the book No Blanks, No Pauses: A Path to Loving Self and Others is Shelly’s first foray into publishing for a wider audience. She is committed to help lift, challenge, and inspire from her home base in Ohio, which she shares with her wife, Cindy, and their three daughters, Ali, Kate, and Nicole.

Born the youngest of fifteen siblings in Lakewood, Ohio, Shelly McNamara began writing as a child to explore her inner self and make sense of the world around her. From the grief of losing close friends and family, the pain of estrangement and rejection, and a deep desire to make the world a more respectful, loving, and inclusive place, Shelly wrote poetry and stories of hope and strength. Writing helped her embrace her own identity while she waited for the world to recognize her lifelong commitment to the woman she loves and the family they built together.

No Blanks, No Pauses is an exploration of one woman's journey to live a full and authentic life that holds lessons for each of us. Shelly has written her way through adversity and heartbreak to discover that dreams are worth pursuing, injustice is worth challenging, and peace and fairness are what matter most. This book's mixture of memoir, poetry, and insightful questions draws us in and gives us confidence that we, too, can heal, connect, and love more expansively than we ever thought possible.
