In this episode of the Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with keynote speaker, leadership advisor, and executive coach, David Nour, about cultivating intentional, strategic business relationships that create extraordinary value beyond what either party could have achieved on their own. David is the founder and CEO of the Nour Group, a consulting firm that advises top global leaders and boards of corporations, associations and academic forums on disruptive innovations to fuel their growth, especially as it relates to strategic relationships and the future of work.

Born in Iran, Nour immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager with $100, limited family ties and no fluency in English. He found that in Iran, as well as in other parts of the world, it's customary to build relationships before doing business, but in the U.S., the opposite is true. This led him to become fascinated with building strategic business relationships, and became the foundation of his first book. Consequently, David has spent the past two decades being a student of business relationships. In the process, he has developed Relationship Economics® – the art and science of becoming more intentional and strategic in the relationships one chooses to invest in.

The author of ten books, including best-sellers CO-CREATE and Relationship Economics, as well as the upcoming Curve Benders, David serves as a trusted advisor to global clients and coaches corporate leaders and rising entrepreneurs. Through his books, speeches, and consulting across the last 20 years, David has taught companies of every size how to choose and nurture key relationships that will take their perception and business to the next level, and he has pioneered the phenomenon that relationships are the greatest off-balance sheet asset any organizations possess, large and small, public and private. David is also the host of the growing and intellectually stimulating Curve Benders Podcast, sharing unique insights at the intersection of future of work and strategic relationships.

This was an interesting conversation with someone with a very similar background to my own, and I really enjoyed David’s insights on the importance of relationships in business. At first glance, this is a topic that might sound “touchy feely,” but David was really able to convey that relationships are about bringing value to one another, and that by being intentional about he relationships that we choose to pursue, we can “co-create” tremendous value that would have never come about on its own. I also really enjoyed his concept of “curve benders“ and how it relates to the concept of transformation, whether personal or professional.
