In this episode of the Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with author, wellbeing and executive coach, Jamie Shapiro, about high impact lifestyle changes leaders can make to unlock more energy and capacity when it comes to both wellbeing and workplace performance. Jamie is the CEO of Connected EC, which helps leaders make changes so they gain the energy, strength and presence to feel and be their best. Jamie’s recent, highly recommended book is Brilliant: Be the Leader Who Shines Brightly Without Burning Out.
Jamie has been coaching and developing high performing teams since 1998. Her interest in the intersection of wellness and leadership grew out of her own experiences as an executive at large-scale IT companies. She managed large teams, faced enormous pressure and was often on the road. Nutritional therapies helped her to feel and perform better in spite of the stress. Her analytical mind wanted to understand why and she began formal study of nutrition.
Jamie's mission is to establish the workplace as a wellness resource for employees, executives and their adjacent communities. Her message is that, if you’re feeling unhealthy, unhappy and exhausted, yet handcuffed by your responsibilities, salary and job title, you don’t have to keep going down the path of burnout. There’s a key to unlocking your greatest potential. It’s possible to elevate your leadership while also creating a foundation of health and happiness. As an Executive Coach, Jamie focuses on helping leaders develop a keen awareness of how both their health and mindset impact leadership performance.
I think this is such an essential mission and message that Jamie has taken on. Those who follow me know how important I believe health and wellbeing are in general, but especially to those of us who take on leadership roles in the workplace or in our communities. I believe we have a responsibility to those we serve to be the best we can be, both physically and mentally, and diet and fitness are a critically important part of being “fit to lead.“
I really enjoyed our conversation, and Jamie had a lot of great insights to share that are so relevant to people in leadership positions, especially executive positions where we can often get out of work-life balance. Suffice it to say, I look forward to talking to Jamie again, and be sure not to miss this episode!
