About this Episode:
In this episode of the Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with speaker, best-selling author, and leadership development strategist, Peter Montoya, about the fundamental principles of self-leadership, and how mastering them empowers us to transform ourselves, our communities, and the world. Peter is founder and executive director of ThriveUnion, the human well-being company, which creates educational content to empower growth, nurture intentional communities, and promote world embetterment. Peter’s newest books are Meetings without Walls, and the upcoming The 10 Secrets of Leadership Power.
Peter has a ravenous mind with unending curiosity. His interests delve him into politics, sociology and psychology, all with an interest in better understanding how we can live better lives while living better together. He’s an experienced presenter with over 3,000 presentations under his belt and a veteran content creator, authoring books, articles and videos. In every talk, Peter brings unique, profound insights into the human condition and psyche, sharing real-world tools to make living life better for all. His love and passion for humanity is as evident as his presence.
I have to admit, I was finding it a little difficult to fully encapsulate what our conversation was about and what Peter uniquely brings to the table, simply because there is such a breadth and depth to Peter’s insight and mastery on topics such as leadership, personal transformation, culture transformation, branding, self-care, psychology, and so on. Suffice it to say, it became clear in our discussion and in my reading about Peter and his work, that he is the very definition of a kindred spirit. He has such a holistic, profound understanding of not just leadership, but living a fulfilling and meaningful life in general, that our short conversation doesn’t do justice to the magnanimity of his personal and professional mission to transform the world.
So, instead of summarizing what we discussed, let me just say that I highly encourage listeners to check out Peter’s work, as well as ThriveUnion (which we did not discuss in the episode). ThriveUnion is described as existing at “the intersection of Blue Zones, behavioral economics, and positive psychology,” and they do some truly fantastic stuff and embody exactly the kind of philosophy the world needs right now, and I cannot recommend them highly enough! This was a great conversation with a truly sagacious leadership, transformation, and thriving expert, and I can’t wait to talk to Peter again! Be sure not to miss this episode!
Some topics discussed in this episode include:
Peter’s journey into transformational leadership from getting started in motivational speaking, marketing, and rbanding.
How Peter defines transformation and transformational leadership
The 3 domains of leadership, Organizational, Family, and Self, and why each is important.
How to immediately empower others and ourselves with 3 steps that we can take action on right now.
Why finding one’s mission or purpose in life comes down to the objective of your moral compass.
What is “leadership power“ and why we should all strive to cultivate more of it, primarily for the benefit of others.
And much more…
Peter Montoya is the best-selling author of “The Brand Called You” and his latest books, “Meetings Without Walls” & “The 10 Secrets of Leadership Power.” He’s also a sought-after and highly motivational keynote speaker and leadership development strategist, specializing in developing high-performance teams. Raised in the comfort of Southern California, Peter is the oldest of 5 rambunctious boys, raised mostly by a single mom. Like his brothers, Peter is driven, intellectually oriented, and hard working. His first 7-year career began at age 10 as a newspaper boy. He continued to work multiple jobs through high school and college. Though Peter struggled through school with undiagnosed ADHD, he was admitted to and graduated from the University of California Irvine in Political Science. In his first job post-college position as a traveling speaker and salesmen, he chalked up over 1,500 presentations in 5 years and lived in over 22 major cities.
