About this Episode:
In this episode of The Transformative Leader Podcast, I’m happy to bring you a conversation with speaker, coach, and Gen Z specialist, Alex Street about how to create a thriving culture of growth and collaboration through fostering intergenerational understanding in the workplace. Alex is the founder of Gen Z Matters, which helps managers and leaders get one step ahead as the next generation enters the workforce, so that they can learn to work alongside Gen Z to create thriving organizations of the future.
Generation Z is 8-23 years old. As they now graduate high school or university and enter the workforce, at the 5th generation to do so concurrently, most of our world has no idea what to do with them or how to help them succeed. Gen Z wants to be a part of organizations that will empower them to use their talents, allow them to craft the culture, and come alongside them as guides through the anxious years of life. Through Gen Z Matters, Alex works with organizations to educate teams about Gen Z’s unique experience and expectations, advocate for the immense potential Gen Z can bring to the table, and help workers of all generations collaborate to create thriving culture together.
Alex had some great perspective to share in our conversation, especially around the differences between generations and the utility (or lack thereof) of stereotypes about them. We all hear about Millenials, and whether or not we truly understand them, we more or less know where we stand when it comes to them. However, generational change doesn’t stop, so discussing how we can understand, accommodate, and collaborate with Gen Z, and with future generations, is something vitally important in the world today. I certainly learned a great deal, and I’m sure listeners will too (even and especially those who think they have the whole “generations“ thing down), so be sure to give this episode a listen!
Some topics discussed in this episode include:
How Alex discovered his calling as a “Gen Z specialist“ and advocate for intergenerational understanding, starting from back when he was a teenager himself.
The 5 different generations currently in the workplace, their general characteristics, and why it is important to not be flippant about their differences.
The unique strengths and opportunities involved with working with Gen Z, as well as how stereotypes affect collaboration between the generations.
The five keys to create a culture in which the different generations and thrive and grow together.
And more…
Alex Street is a speaker and coach, creating confidence for others in three areas of focus: - Doing What You're Made For - Working With Gen Z - Making Speaking Magical.
